Septic Services in Los Olivos, CA
Los Olivos is a small wine-country town where every home and business still runs on its own septic system. Santa Barbara County designated it a septic “Special Problem Area” back in 1974, so septic work here gets more attention than almost anywhere in the county.

Septic work in Los Olivos: the local picture
Los Olivos has no community sewer. Homes, tasting rooms and restaurants on small town lots all depend on individual septic systems, and shallow groundwater and nitrate concerns led the county to designate the town a septic Special Problem Area in 1974. Voters formed the Los Olivos Community Services District in 2018 to work toward a community wastewater solution, and the district monitors groundwater with its own wells. Until a community system exists, keeping individual septic systems working properly matters here more than in most places.
Septic installations, replacements and repairs in Los Olivos are permitted through Santa Barbara County Environmental Health Services. The district’s published guidance, prepared with EHS, recommends an effluent filter on every system and requires one on new systems and wherever permitted work is done. Work is performed by a contractor holding a CSLB C-42 Sanitation System license (or C-36/A within scope), verified and shown to you in writing before work starts.
