Septic Tank Repair on the Central Coast

Many ‘failed’ systems are one failed component away from working again. Baffles, lids, filters, pumps and lines are all repairable — and in California, most septic repairs fall in the $1,000–$5,000 range.

Repairs we see most often

  • Inlet/outlet baffles: corroded concrete baffles are the classic failure on older tanks; replacing them with modern sanitary tees stops solids from reaching the drainfield
  • Lids and risers: cracked lids are a safety hazard; risers bring access to grade so the tank can be serviced without digging
  • Effluent filters: a clogged filter causes slow drains that look like a failing system — cleaning or replacing it is a small fix
  • Pumps and floats: systems that pump effluent uphill to the field stop cold when a pump or float switch dies
  • Lines: root intrusion, settled or crushed pipes between house, tank and field
  • Distribution boxes: tilted or deteriorated boxes that flood one trench and starve the rest

Corrosion and older Central Coast tanks

Tanks installed decades ago — including steel tanks on older ranch and farm properties — corrode from the inside out. A steel tank that has begun to rust through, or a concrete tank with a crumbling lid or walls, is a collapse risk and generally a replacement conversation rather than a repair. A proper inspection distinguishes the two, which is why repair quotes follow a look inside the tank, not a phone guess.

Repair now, protect the field

The economic logic of tank repair is the drainfield: every repair that keeps solids, grease and excess water out of the field extends the life of the most expensive component you own. If your issue turns out to be bigger than a repair, we’ll say so plainly — see system replacement for how that decision gets made.
